About Clint Eastwood’s speech

I watched the convention on CSPAN which just shows the convention and does not have commentary or interviews. On CSPAN the convention is what you are watching, not pundits watching the convention and telling you what to think about it. On CSPAN you can watch all of it, even the parts that some show producer thinks is unimportant or does not fit the narrative they wish to tell.

Watching on CSPAN I did not have the advantage of immediately hearing from commentators and pundits tell me how weird Clint Eastwood’s speech was. It was only after it was over and I channel surfed the other news networks, that I learned of that view.

This morning, reading news stories I see that Eastwood's speech is described as “baffling,” “rambling,” “embarrassing,” “a disaster” and “bizarre.” I thought it was refreshing, humorous, and to the point. I liked the talk to the empty chair. There were plenty of serious speeches by serious politicians; having a different kind of speech by an American icon like Clint Eastwood was different and I thought it was great. I liked Clint Eastwood’s speech and was not embarrassed.

Tremendous event in Tampa comes to a close: Report # 10

Rod's comment: Wow! I am overwhelmed! Great speech. Emotional! A great convention. I am so pumped up. At the conclusion, I stood up in my bedroom and applauded. For the sake of our nation, for the future of the idea of liberty, for the concept that a people can govern themselves, we must win this next election. I honestly believe there has never been a more important election facing this country than this one. Will we go down the path of dependency and bankruptcy and mediocrity or will we embrace the vision that has made America a unique nation among nations? America is more than a country; it is an idea. Do the American people have what it takes to hold on to it?

Mitt Romney: "That America, that united America, will preserve a military that is so strong, no nation would ever dare to test it."
"More backbone" About to have a vertebral & cerebral POTUS!

"My promise is to help you & your family" says POTUS2B Romney. Yeah.
Mitt Romney: "We must rein in the skyrocketing cost of healthcare by repealing and replacing Obamacare." Absolutely.

Romney laying out the plan to turn this ship around ! Five steps to rebuilding America

12 MILLION NEW JOBS. Nuff said.

My chill bumps have chill bumps...Loving the Winans. Faith, Family, Freedom.

Romney nailed it! Can there be ANY doubt about November?

Mitt Romney: "That America, that united America, will preserve a military that is so strong, no nation would ever dare to test it."

"My promise is to help you & your family" says POTUS2B Romney. Yeah.

Romney laying out the plan to turn this ship around ! Five steps to rebuilding America

Gov. Romney clearly emotional talking about his family. Now talking policy and getting stronger.
Mitt Romney: "I am running for president to help create a better future. A future where everyone who wants a job can find one."

Mitt Romney: "I am running for president to help create a better future. A future where everyone who wants a job can find one."

Mitt Romney: "In America, we celebrate success, we don't apologize for success" Amen, brother!

FIRED UP crowd. As my pastor says, Ready to charge hell w a water pistol! Empowered!

Romney: "You know there's something wrong with the job he's done as president if the best feeling you had is the day you voted for him."

POTUS2B getting teary talking about his parents. No faux here.

Mitt Romney: "When the world needs to do really big stuff, you need an American." Great line.

Bill Hagerty of TN greets our next POTUS, Mitt Romney.
"The American Miracle lives on..." by electing Romney, says Rubio

Sen. : "Dreams that were impossible anywhere else, they come true here." Very inspirational stuff and very, very true.

"They were never rich but they were successful" Rubio describes his hardworking parents. Example!

Fantastic Speech by Rubio! I am proud to be an American!  Rubio for President!

Sen. : "Hope and Change has become Divide and Conquer."
Rubio on Obama: "Our problem is not that he's a bad person. It's that he's a bad president."

Clint Eastwood: "When somebody does not do the job, we gotta let 'em go."

Rod's comment: Client Eastwood is great! "Biden is the intellect of the Democratic Party." Lots of great one-liners!

Clint Eastwood: "Now it may be time for somebody else to come along and solve the problem." Indeed. Indeed.

Debra Maggart Rumor had it security Is clearing the aisle by the TN DELEGATION FOR CLINT EASTWOOD We will know soon!
Clint Eastwood, NBD:
Looking forward to hearing from film legend Clint Eastwood. So many great films. More than few with strong conservative themes.

I'm kind of wondering why a Summer Olympian is introducing Dan Jansen and Scott Hamilton.
Debra Maggart: Hey @WKU Republicans-Check out this cool Romney Ryan red towel!

GE Smith and Tyler Hicks is a pairing that gods would dream up.
Great to hear from the small businessmen has helped throughout his career. Great stories reveal true breadth of his experience.

This is a pretty good prebuttal of any potential attacks next week on Bain.

Personal service versus personal piety...& no Rev. Wright spew...Yep. Sounds like a good man.

Rod's Comment: Jeb Bush just complemented Governor Bill Haslam for his role in education reform! Good education speech by Jeb.

Shout out to and TN's education reforms!

Right about now the NEA is melting down listening to Gov Jeb Bush explain "choices"

Gov Jeb Bush schooling us on what we need to do to really turn education around in this country

Why won't CNN show the black guy? Are they racists?

Hark! A voice of Tennessee! Fred Thomspon narrates the video of the generation we must protect from debt & a failing nation.

That's ... The narrator. Right?

Rod's Comment: I was pleased to see Craig Romney speak in Spanish although I could not understand it. I was pleased to see the clip recognizing all of the Hispanic Senators, Governors and other Hispanic elected officials. I know there is a tiny "English-only" xenophobic segment of the Party, but it is a small segment. I think most Republicans welcome those who share our values, regardless of their native language or country of origin.

Craig Romney doesn't have to emote or conjure up passion. Authentic.

Romney: "Americans are tired of being tired."

Hope has left the Democratic Building. It's palpable in Tampa+across nation thru GOP Convention. Now, Change just has to catch up!

The weeklong effort to draw a parallel between Carter and Obama has reached its logical apex -- a history lesson from Newt Gingrich.

Newt goes there....Obama=Carter=Disrespect.

Dispatches from the trenches of Tampa: Report # 9

Ron supporters preparing to march at the .

Rod's Comment: This is totally disgusting!
I am deeply offended by the Peace sign. It was the banner under which those marched who stabbed us in the back during the Vietnam war. It the symbol of the enemies of this republic, in my view. To desecrate the flag with any symbol is a disgrace. To desecrate the flag with the Peace sign is a double disgrace. I like a lot of the Ron Paul message and was pleased to see he was honored at the RNC last night, however,  some of Ron Paul's supporters are closer to the "Occupy" camp, in my view, than the Republican camp. I would not be disappointed if some enraged veteran kicked the ass of the guy carrying the flag. Not that I condone violence but, I would donate to his defense fund if he attacked the guy carrying the flag.

GOP convention notebook: Former governor flirts with speaker

2:21 AM, Aug 30, 2012, Written by Chas Sisk The Tennessean

The Tennessee delegation held a low-key tribute to House Speaker Beth Harwell Wednesday afternoon, honoring her for becoming the first woman to lead the state House of Representatives in 2011.

Gathering in a conference room in the delegation hotel in Safety Harbor, Fla., delegates watched a two-minute tribute to the speaker, then stood by as former Tennessee Gov. Winfield Dunn spoke for only slightly longer about his warm feelings toward Harwell.

.....the item that has been most in demand among the Tennessee delegation is a square button designed and handed out by fellow delegate Beth Campbell.
Tennessee's GOP convention delegation leaves disputes at home
The Tennessea, Aug 30, 2012, Written by Chas Sisk

TAMPA, FLA. — The differences that have shaken up the Tennessee Republican Party in recent months have not spilled over to Florida, where the party’s top leaders have been greeted warmly by a delegation that contains few tea party activists.
While delegations from some states have shown visible divisions, Tennessee’s time at the Republican National Convention has gone smoothly.

The state’s delegation contains none of the chairmen of the county parties who last month criticized Gov. Bill Haslam for employing a Tennessee-born Muslim to..;....

Convention Update with Governor Bill Haslam
 From the Convention

Like many of the nation’s Republican governors, I’m in Tampa for a couple of days this week to participate in the Republican National Convention. I have to say, it’s been a great experience so far. Yesterday, I had the honor and privilege of announcing that all 58 of Tennessee’s delegates were cast for Mitt Romney. And as you may have heard, I had a little fun working in a lot of the reasons Tennessee is one of the best states in the nation to live, work and raise a family. Mitt is very much a problem solver and exactly what this country needs – someone who will define reality and actually solve the multitude of problems we’re facing. Be sure to watch the video above for more details from Tampa. – Bill

Diane BlackComing to First Tuesday
Tuesday, September 4th
will be
Congressman Diane Black

Congressman Diane Black’s Biography:

As a nurse for over 40 years, small business owner and former educator, Congressman Diane Black brings a unique perspective to her work in Washington.

From her work in the health care field, Black learned first-hand the importance of high-quality care and the obstacles faced by both patients and providers.  She began her career as an emergency room nurse, but also served as a long-term care nurse and worked as part of an outpatient surgery team.

Elected to Congress in 2010, Black represents Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses areas north, east and south of Nashville.  Black came to Washington on a platform of conservative values, with particular focus on fiscal restraint and curbing government debt, and enacting market-based health care reform.
Upon coming to Congress, Black was elected by her fellow freshmen Members of Congress to serve as the Freshman Class Representative to the Republican Policy Committee, a forum where Republicans can discuss and forward their legislative initiatives.

Black was also chosen as one of only two freshmen to serve on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, and has been a part of the committee’s efforts to fundamentally reform our nation’s tax system for the first time in over 20 years.  Additionally, Black has been at the center of many health care debates within the committee.  In November of 2011, Black was one of the first House Freshmen to see one of her bills signed into law—legislation that closed a loophole in the President’s health care law and saved $13 billion.

Black is also a Member of the House Budget Committee, and a strong supporter of The Path to Prosperity 2012 budget, which saves Medicare for future generations and puts our budgets on a path to balance.  She has since introduced legislation that would reform the budget process and give federal budgets the force of law—ensuring that spending levels set by Congress are followed each year.

Building off her work in the Tennessee Legislature as a pro-life leader, Black has consistently fought for the rights of the unborn.  Her first piece of legislation, HConRes 36, would have prevented Planned Parenthood from receiving federal dollars in the continuing resolution fight in the spring of 2011 and passed the House in a bipartisan vote.  Black has cosponsored legislation that would codify the Hyde Amendment, as well as prohibiting abortion funding in the federal health care law.

Black and her husband of over 30 years, Dr. David Black have three grown children and six grandchildren.  They currently live in Gallatin and attend Community Church in Hendersonville.

For more information about Congressman Black and her work in Tennessee and Washington, DC, you can visit her website at and follow her on Twitter and Facebook.

1st Tuesday is a always a great event. Hear interesting speakers in a room with a view, have a nice meal for a reasonable price and network with other Republicans. Park for free or cheap in the public garage beneath the library, which is less than a block away. Anyone is welcome to attend. The meeting is exactly one hour long, so you can attend and not be gone from work that long. If you are a Republican or a conservative and in the Nashville area, you really owe it to yourself to start attending 1st Tuesday. Previous guest speakers have included, Governor Bill Haslam, Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey, Mayor Karl Dean, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, economist Authur Laffer, Senator Bob Corker and former Speaker of the House and presidential candidate Newt Gringich

To reserve lunch or to be added to the list and be notified of future meetings, visit the website at First Tuesday.

A Big night in Tampa! Report # 8

MSNBC Meltdown, Shambles, Nationlistic, Blinded, Crazed. Really embarrasses a previously respected vocation, journalism.

Paul Ryan not only knocked it over the fence, he put it through the windshield of the Obama bus!

"Two of Your faithful sons" describes the Orthodox Priest of Romney & Ryan. Amen.

Excellent and inspiring message of freedom from . Great introduction to the nation for the next Vice-President of the USA!

See, you can get a room excited without sounding like you're looking to punch someone.

For the sake of our country, join Mitt Romney & me, let's see this through, let's get this done." VP2BRyan Action, leadership, win

Rep. : "That’s freedom, and I’ll take it any day over the supervision and sanctimony of the central planners." Great message

This speech and last night's show me why Chris Christie was not the VP choice. Ryan can do the "reach out to Obama voters" thing.
Kathleen Starnes No competition. Paul Ryan is the man
Rod's Comment: Paul Ryan gave a riveting speech! He explained the issues facing the country. He understands the issues and offers real solutions. I do not think we could have a better choice for VP.

Lt. Gov. joins in the standing ovation for Condi Rice.
Rod's Comment: Wow! Condoleezza Rice knocked it out of the ballpark. A serious speech that left me with a lump in my throat and a desire to stand up and cheer.

Biggest ovation so far. Dr. Rice rocks!

Did Condoleezza Rice just announce for President?

"The civil rights issue of our day" says Dr. Rice is educational choice, excellence. Next week Dems will say it's free birth control.

That's the key-it's abt issues to be a Republican, not identity politics, fitting racial profile, gender group, or a voting bloc.

Dr. Rice "ours has never been a nation of grievances & entitlement" Translation: Celebrate our successes & pursue others!

Condi Rice: "We have never been jealous of each other, and never been envious of each others successes." Excellent stuff.
Condoleeza Rice: "We do not have a choice. We cannot be reluctant to lead, and you cannot lead from behind."
Condi takes the stage and rocks the convention hall!

Read the full text of the speech and watch the video.

Uh-oh.GOP's war on women+minorities narrative of the left taking quite a hit with yet another independent, brilliant female leader.
Gov. : "Welcome to 's retirement party!" Great way to start a speech!
This year's Statesmen's Dinner speaker speaking at convention
"President Obama is out of gas; Americans are out of patience, and our great Republic is almost out of time." ~
In the Romney's box with fab SC governor @nikkihaley

Rod's comment: I am not in Tampa, but am glued to the TV watching the convention gravel-to-gravel and enjoying it immensely. I am watching it on C-span uninterrupted by commentary except for switching channels during musical interludes and long applause segment and then am catching a little on Fox, MSNBC and CNN. I think it is better to watch it unfiltered.

I have the utmost respect for John McCain and wish he was our President, however when John McCain essentially urged military intervention in Syria, he lost me. I am not so sure that the opponents of the Syrian regime would be preferable to the current Syrian regime. Also, foreign wars can be easy to get into and very hard to get out of. The last thing we need to do is to get bogged down in another war. We are a war-weary nation with no appetite for another war.At the same time, we must not abandon our leadership roll in the world.

Sen. John McCain speaking now.

  I miss him yet..W

Only the Pauls could deliver an effective speech that starts with a  discourse on the "enumerated powers."

On the front row for :

I'm sorry, what the hell is this?

Apparently Mitch McConnell's main job was to separate the Ron Paul tribute from Rand Paul's speech. Hence he took the air out of the room.

Turns out Ted Nugent was not the only Republican in Damn Yankees. Someone named Jack Blades is now performing.

McConnell is making a fairly good speech against Obama, but with his dry delivery, I see why they gave him this slot.

's Rep. Jimmy Duncan in video tribute. "Ron Paul is one of the most fiscally conservative members (in history.)"

For those keeping track at home, the tribute to Ron Paul came at 7:09 pm EDT. Was your local station broadcasting the convention?

. knocked that out of the park.

Great to see and at the Peter Thiel thing. and too.
